When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel, and Bill Lawrence were asked how they got Harrison Ford to appear on the show, Segel said that Goldstein originally wanted a “Harrison Ford type” and wanted to audition people who were similar to Ford. Segel told Goldstein that they would at least have to pitch the idea to Ford first, because he thought he would immediately reject it, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford had been offered a project that would pique the interest of other major companies to replace actors.

Goldstein eventually talked to Ford and sold him on the role. Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was thrilled nonetheless. And the rest of the performance is great, too. Jason Segel is the perfect choice for this script.
And Jessica is perfect
He has a weird, idiotically confident energy that’s needed for the role. Her humor fits the dialogue perfectly. It’s a new kind of situational drama. No real punch lines, just engaging personalities with a bit of weirdness and family circumstances that are a little off but still understandable.
It’s just impossible
Of course, Jimmy’s behavior as a therapist is completely absurd. You’ll lose your license immediately. But we allow for metaphorical situations in the drama. In this script, we feel a strong sense of purpose in the decisions that are made.
It’s easy and enjoyable for me
We have to give the writers a leg up and try to capture the essence. Other reviewers have clearly had a hard time.
