The film starts off annoyingly unstable, but it slowly builds to an intriguing story
Line of Events
The film follows Catherine Ravenscroft, a TV documentary journalist whose job is to expose the transgressions of long-respected institutions. Gary Oldman was originally supposed to be cast, but he was replaced by Kevin Kline. I don’t know if Alfonso has an enemy on IMDB, which explains the brutal and unfair one-star ratings, but they’re completely out of character.
It gets darker and more complex with each episode
At first, it doesn’t seem like a complete mystery, but more of a tragic drama. But you start to get the sense that there’s more to the story than the seemingly obvious good and bad characters. To the point that I felt I had to come back here to edit my original review and add stars.
Now, the gray cat
The cockroach situation is disturbing and revealing. A small detail, but this is perhaps the first series I’ve seen that depicts a real cat/human relationship. A cat that is always by your side.
Curious, mischievous, funny and tender
I really appreciate a film that doesn’t present the cat as a distant or even dark presence. The gray cat in this film has more charm than all the humans combined and steals the show in every scene he appears in. I hope he gets an Oscar!
