Pendery unsuccessfully sought to open a Second Chance program in a U.S. prison, but succeeded in establishing the program in the state prison at Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico in 1995. The program was funded partly with his own money and partly with financial support from the Mexican government. It was subsequently approved for use in the state prison at Tijuana, though that program was suspended due to prisoner moves.

2nd Chance Clinic began in 2012 when three doctors recognized a need in their Lexington community and opened a small office to help patients and their loved ones with opiate addiction. Today, our team has grown and we have expanded into a 15,000 square foot location to better serve our clients with a variety of treatment options. Second Chance is a non-profit,community based counseling and recovery center. It relies heavily on people who have themselves worked through difficult situations to work with people dealing with similar problems. Diversion services—DUI, PC1000 Drug Diversion, Domestic Non-Violence Support, HIV/AIDS Education Workshop, and Co-Parenting Group—are provided on a fee-for-service basis.

Operating a Successful Second Chance Policy and Program

All of our team members are attentive and dedicated to helping patients along their journey against substance use disorder. After completing medical school at the University of Missouri – Kansas City and residency at the University of Kentucky, he has been practicing medicine for over 20 years.
