He ignores his training and his ethics and realizes he’s making a huge difference in people’s lives, including his own. The cast of “Downsizing” shares the key moments that shaped their characters in the first season and reveals who mastered the best Harrison Ford impersonation. When Brett Goldstein, Jason Siegel and Bill Lawrence were asked how they brought Harrison Ford onto the show, Siegel said that Goldstein originally wanted a “Harrison Ford type” and wanted to audition people who looked like Ford.

Siegel told Goldstein that they should have at least presented it to Ford first because he thought he would immediately turn it down, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford had gotten the project, which would spark interest from other famous actors. Eventually, Goldstein talked to Ford and convinced him to take the role. Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was thrilled nonetheless.
Are any characters stereotypes?
This is easy and fun entertainment. Clearly written, excellent one-liners, enough pathos to keep it from being a mediocre “The Big Bang Theory,” entertaining to watch. Yes, real therapists wouldn’t act like this, but anyone with a functioning brain will understand, so criticism from that perspective is just negative to bring down the rating.

FYI, I worked with a gay man who fit the exact stereotype shown here. The real success here is mixing the seriousness of therapy and grief with the growing pains of life at different ages, at different stages, and in different ways of life, and making it damn funny. After all, who knew what a wonderful light comedy actor Harrison Ford is?
