Brilliant but emotionally guarded Caro Drake arrives at Oxford with a singular goal of earning a doctorate, but through a stormy friendship with a charming young man, she begins to open up to secrets, vulnerability, and love. Carolyn Weber, author of the book whose biographical novel the film is based on, attended along with actor Rose Reid, who played Caro Drake in the film, and other members of the production.
The author’s conversion was the focus of the book
Christmas Eve in My Hometown Written by Stanley William Zabka and Donald Upton Starring Eddie Fisher (1951 Recording). After reading the book, I was disappointed that the film was more about the love story than the author’s conversion.
The love story was a minor part
I felt like the conversion story was almost non-existent in the film and felt like they were actually trying to downplay it. The acting was very good and it was great to see some of my favorite British actors.
The cinematography and set design were beautiful, as was the music
It was supposed to be a love story for Jesus, not TDH. It was almost confusing to understand what the film was trying to get across compared to the clear message of the book.
